Transfer practise in the virtual world?

Felix wrote to me:

I have found a new study about Reality Virtual and stuttering. I believe it could be very useful for the treatment of stuttering. For the example, desensibilization, learning better the cancellations, pull-outs and onset,…etc,.etc..

The study are is, “Frequency of stuttering during challenging and supportive virtual reality job interviews”.

Link to article is here.

What is your opinion? In the future can there exist a commercial software to treatment the stuttering? Not only in interviews, but also in the bus, underground, nice girl ;-)

I have looked at the article and, to be honest, I am not convinced. It could well be useful to practise speech techniques in a safe environment. But you can do the same in group therapy with the other real participations. In any case, you still need to go out there and practise in real life situations.

And I am not sure I would be as excited by a virtual girl than by a real girl!! :-) But maybe we can have Lara Croft as the virtual girl and we need to try to chat her up! For female stutterers, I am happy for the software maker to make a digital copy of me... :-) Or alternatively, they can practise their techniques by phoning me: 00352 26835033.

And ...others...and others..experiences...but I believe this activitie like a high risk sports, it's adictive...;-)I need all the weeks my Hunter Day to feel the adrelanina...;-) ;-)

I dont consider my comments as advice, as I believe most readers have at least as much experience of therapy than myself. My comments are just food for thoughts!

I should come to Madrid, and join the hunting group!! :-)

I like Spanish girls. Many are very cute and sexy. But they do speak soooooo fast. They are the fastest speaking girls in the world! So I sometimes feel overwhelmed!

We have our GT (group therapy) sessions every saturday at our speech centre here, we get together and practice our speech, by countering various situations, like everytime we have to come up on the podium and introduce ourselves and speak on the weeks topic. And everytime we have something new, plays, debates, etc. I feel its a good way to build up your confidence and also to keep up with your therapy and all the difference it has made. Once you face your fear the fear is gone..the hunting group sounds like an amazing idea, ill surely be introducing this as our next topic on my next GT meet.

My favorite for speech therapy of the future are the Holodeks from Star Trek. Unfortunately we do not live yet in the 24. century.
